The Ramapogue Historical Society invited the Springfield Hockey Heritage Society to make a presentation on the history of local hockey at their annual meeting on May 15th.
A lively crowd of nearly 100 local historians were treated to our presentation, which featured an hour long trip down Memory Lane, incorporating a photo slideshow up on the big screen to bring some of the stories to life. From Abbie Cox and Clucker Whyte through Calder Cup championships and a display of some of the artifacts from different time periods, this was a night that was as much fun for us, as (hopefully!) it was for our hosts!
We were fortunate to be joined for the presentation by Springfield Hockey Hall of Famer, Eddie "Ted" Shore, Jr. Shore's firsthand, eyewitness accounts brought the audience a special, "behind-the-scenes" look into a simpler time in what has become a very complex business.
The Springfield Hockey Heritage Society's next member's gathering is scheduled for July 29th at the Coliseum in West Springfield. This is a members only event, so if you haven't become a member of the Society yet, take a moment and do so at the bottom of the webpage. Annual memberships are only $20 and can be paid on the site with a credit card. You can also print the membership form and send your payment in the form of a check or money order.
Thanks to the Ramapogue Historical Society for the invitation. If your group would like the SHHS to make a presentation on the local history of hockey, contact us...we'd love to be a part of your group's next outing!
